Fifteen years ago, my daughter wanted to learn the violin. I took her to a music school in Chiang Mai, where students needed their own instrument. We ordered a violin from a shop in Bangkok, but when it arrived, the varnish and wood were poor despite the price. I asked the shop to exchange it, but they said this was normal for a 5,000-baht violin and that a better Italian instrument would cost hundreds of thousands of baht.
